November 2002 was a big month. Globally, the first mobile phone with an in-built camera was launched (along with the first ever selfie) and closer to home, the good people of the Bay & Basin were gifted with their very own community radio station -92.7FM. Happy 20th Birthday to Us!

We first started as an activity for local young people. In 2001, we did a number of test broadcasts using the narrowcast frequency of 87.6 MHz (Boodooree LPON). The community loved it so the station was then officially launched on 92.7FM with a temporary license in November 2002.

Over the next three years we focussed on providing a unique broadcasting service so locals could keep connected and up-to-date with what was happening in their own community. We also obtained the necessary compliance requirements to apply for a Community radio permanent license with the ACMA.

In June 2006 we obtained our first five year permanent broadcasting license. This was a testament to the hard work and efforts of the staff and volunteers who tirelessly worked on building up the station’s capacity.

Over the last 20 years Bay & Basin 92.7FM has continued to grow and with the support of the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia, Community Broadcasting Foundation, Bay & Basin Community Resources and our committed staff and team of over 35 volunteers, we are very proud to have built up a radio station that is uniquely local, offers an alternative to mainstream media and gives our community a voice.
